If you play basketball, chances are you’ve heard somebody say “ball don’t lie” on the court before.
But what does this phrase mean, and how did it become so popular?
The idea behind the “ball don’t lie” phrase is that when a player misses a shot after a questionable call, that’s the basketball gods’ way of saying the wrong call was made or vice versa.
In essence, it’s the idea of karma being applied to sports.
This phrase was commonly used by former NBA player Rasheed Wallace.
Fun fact, the name of this blog, The Honest Ball, was inspired by this phrase, as the ball does not lie.
